PTIC Buddies for Kindergarten Parents

Who: We need volunteers (PTIC Members) to pair up with New Kindie Parents (2017-18 school year)
Objective: To provide the parents of incoming kindergartners with support and resources by means of an assigned PTIC Buddy Why: The year your child is a kindergartner can be one of the most worry some years. We want to help new kindergarten parents feel supported when they join the Roxborough Elementary School family. Normally the kindergarten teacher answer a lot of the questions and are a good resource for these parents. The purpose of this program is to alleviate some of that work load placed on the teachers so they can focus on helping the new kindergartners adjust to their new environments. Overview: Interested parents signed up at Kindergarten Orientation to have a mentor assigned to them from PTIC. The PTIC member will be a “buddy” to the kindie parent. The PTIC member will be a resource for the kindergarten parent. The PTIC buddy will answer all the new kindie parents questions to the best of their ability and when it doubt reach back to the PTIC and I’m sure we can find the answer. The commitment is throughout the year. The buddy must remain reachable and if something causes the PTIC buddy to be unavailable to continue to support the Kindie Parent then we will have a replacement. This is a great way to show incoming parents how great the PTIC is and how we really go above and beyond to support members of our community is any way we can. |
PTIC BUDDY REQUIREMENTS
First Contact (Prior to the first day of school) - The PTIC Buddy will make first contact to the Kindie Parent they were assigned.
Attend meet and greet Picnic (August 5th) - We will host a meet and greet picnic before school starts at the Roxborough Community Park. This will give the buddies and kindie parents a place and time to meet before school starts. Details will be provided to all individuals participating. *If you can’t make the meet and greet it is suggested you set up a time to meet prior to school starting in August.
Maintain Communications and Support throughout the school year - PTIC Buddies will be someone for the Kindie Parents to call/text/email with any questions no matter now big, small or silly. If you find you can’t keep this commitment please let us know.
